SparkWave Energy (SWE) is a joint venture between the European renewables giant Octopus Energy Generation and a group of local investors led by Diego Hernando Ortega. SWE is forecast to invest solar self-consumption projects and install 150 MWp by 2027.
With the aim of accelerating the energy transition of Portuguese Businesses and contributing to Portugal's goals for renewable energy implementation and industry decarbonization, SWE will offer the best market conditions to both businesses and energy communities, making implementation practical and swift. for us to do more, better, and faster."
With a business model focused on 100% investment in projects, design, implementation, management, and maintenance, SWE enters the market with the aim of challenging the status quo of companies operating in solar self-consumption. The business model is based on offering Portuguese companies very competitive energy prices, representing substantial discounts to the tariffs they pay, with no financial outlay for the company. After a certain period, the installation reverts to the company, increasing the energy cost savings.
Octopus Energy Generation has grown to become the largest investor of solar power in Europe, as well as growing to become a leading investor in onshore wind. They currently manage a global portfolio of renewable energy assets valued at more than £5 billion. This has created a portfolio of clean energy assets with a combined capacity of 3.3 Gigawatts, and last year generated enough energy to power 2.2 million homes every year.
Octopus Energy Generation is a truly differentiated fund management business and, as part of the Octopus Energy Group, it creates a direct connection between renewable energy generation, leading technology and supply to create a unique force capable of driving the energy transition – deploying capital to push towards net zero at pace.
